Writing research reports is part of engineering education in most universities around the world. When doing research, students need to be familiar with other researchers’ works and reflect their knowledge of related work in the literature review portion of their reports. The literature review helps situate one’s project or research in the broader framework of knowledge in a particular field.
In this assignment, you will write a short literature review on:
Application of metal 3D printing in manufacturing.
Your literature review should have relevant theories and frameworks by analyzing the published literature available. The purpose is to highlight and discuss the relative weaknesses and strengths of the selected research area while identifying any research gaps. The literature review should be within 750-1000 words (word limit is for main text only, not for titles, reference figures/tables) and include a minimum of 15 references. (Try to include newer articles) If you feel appropriate, you can include figures or tables (not more than 3).
Introduction: Here, you will be required to clearly and concisely state the objectives of the literature review.
Main body: Highlight the main findings from each academic source and organize them into one whole piece without losing coherence. Ensure that you are giving opinions and arguments of your own where possible, not simply rephrasing what others have said. It is crucial to present the literature you have reviewed and the merits and weaknesses of the literature.
Conclusion: You should include a summary of the key findings which emerged from the literature and their relevance and significance.
